Hit and Run
April 19, 2026

On Sunday, April 19th, 2026, at approximately 1409 hours, I, Officer Justin Grosvenor, while on duty, displaying my badge of office, in a marked patrol vehicle, was dispatched to the area of South 2nd Street and Grant Avenue, a public roadway in the City of Raton, County of Colfax, State of New Mexico, in reference to a report of a hit and run of a vehicle fleeing the scene after colliding with a building.

Initial calls for service indicated that a white BMW had collided with the Hometown Car Wash, located at 109 Grant Avenue. Upon arrival, I canvassed the exterior of the business and did not observe any signs of property damage or any indication that a collision had occurred. I made contact with the property owner, Mr. John Brown, who stated he had neither heard nor seen a crash take place.

Shortly after speaking with Mr. Brown, a second call for service was received reporting that a dark gray sedan had collided with the Ray A. Florsheim building, located at 1 12 Grant Avenue. I responded to that location and observed significant damage to the northeast comer of the building. Several vehicle parts were located at the scene, including a blue and white BMW emblem and what appeared to be a driver-side mirror. The mirror was confirmed, via part number, to belong to a BMW 5 Series. Based on the evidence, the suspect vehicle is believed to be a dark gray BMW 5 Series, likely a mid-201 Os model. I am familiar with this make and model due to prior ownership and maintenance expenences.

I notified Raton Central Dispatch (RCD) ofmy findings and provided an updated vehicle description based on the evidence recovered at the scene. Mr. Florsheim was present and assessing the damage. He granted mc access to the interior of the building, where I documented extensive damage to the exterior wall, interior contents, and possible structural components. All damage was documented using the Axon Capture application on my department-issued cellphone. Mr. Florsheim did provide an approximate cost estimate of $15,000.00 (fifteen thousand dollars).

While on scene, Mr. Jerry Jiron arrived on foot and stated he had observed the vehicle fleeing the area. He reported hearing tires screeching prior to the crash. He described the vehicle as a dark gray sedan but initially believed it to be a "Cadillac" or "Nissan." Despite this discrepancy, Mr. Jiron was confident regarding the vehicle's color and that it was a sedan. Officers conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate or identify the vehicle within city limits.

Mr. Florsheim was advised to provide a final cost estimate and insurance information to the Raton Police Department at his earliest convenience for inclusion in this report. Currently, no additional leads or actionable information is available. Further investigation is required to properly identiW the vehicle and driver and to conduct necessary enforcement.

This report is cleared exceptionally. Should any new information, suspects, and/or leads arise, this report be reopened.
